- Interaction Patterns: Tracking mouse movements, scrolling habits, and the physical angles at which you hold a smartphone.
Common Uses & Applications
- Consumer Tech: Unlocking smartphones, authorizing mobile payments, and accessing computers via Face ID or Touch ID.
- Travel and Border Control: Agencies like the Transportation Security Administration use contactless identity matching at airport checkpoints to verify travelers against their official credentials.
- Corporate Security: Protecting restricted buildings and digital networks using physical scanners or background behavioral tracking.
Privacy and Security
While biometrics offer incredible convenience and high security—as they are virtually impossible to share or guess—they are not completely infallible. Because biometric traits are permanent, a compromised database poses a significant security risk. For robust protection, cybersecurity experts recommend using biometrics as an added layer of defense alongside traditional, strong passwords, rather than relying on them exclusively.
